Fixing the Problem
I've heard a lot of theories as to what the "problem" in the American church is right now. What most of us don't realize is that we perceive the shortcomings of our strategies based primarily on our spiritual gifts, personality and how God has equipped us to serve His Body. Here's what I've observed based on the ministry offices described in Scripture:
Teachers think the problem is people don't know and believe the teachings of Scripture Pastors think the problem is that people don't feel welcomed and loved enough Evangelists think the problem is that people don't preach the Gospel and reach the lost Prophets think the problem is that people don't hear from heaven and obey what they hear Apostles think the problem is that people aren't going out using their gifts in the proper place
Saints think the problem is that they don't see a place for themselves in such a discussion
The primary purpose of all of the "5-fold" ministry gifts/offices is to equip the saints for the work of the ministry. (See Ephesians 4:11-12) How about we start doing that, and then every single issue brought up above will be addressed. But then, to see the overall problem and how to fix it requires a point of view only God can provide, so let us prayerfully begin to focus more on being equipped and equipping others rather than continuing to do "ministry as usual."
